J5790 Pilot Officer (No. 7 Squadron RAF pilot) George Frederick Sanderson (b.1920) of Avonlea was KIA 19420603 and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial near London, England, for airmen from the north European theatre who died with no known grave. Sanderson, who was mentioned in despatches posthumously, and his Stirling failed to return from a raid on Essen, his 15th mission. Frank enlisted at Regina late in 1940. Brother of FG Sanderson. They were the sons of Herbert and Mary (Clark) Sanderson, and both farmed with their family before enlisting. The boys were educated at Sanderson school (see Geographic Names of Saskatchewan) which was named for Herbert who came from Skirwith, Cumbria, England, to ranch at NE18-13-22-W2 northeast of Avonlea in 1892. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
