Narrative history
J12973 Flight Lieutenant (No. 405 City of Vancouver Pathfinder Squadron RCAF observer) David Ramsay DFC (b.1920) of Alberni, British Columbia, was KIA 19440427 and is buried at Webbekom churchyard, Brabant, Belgium. Ramsay's Lancaster went down during a raid on the railway marshalling yards at Montzen, his 50th operational mission. He was the son of Peter Ferguson and Isabella (Hetherington) Ramsay who came from Glasgow, Scotland, to homestead SE32-24-13-W2 in the Headlands district and later moved to Alberni. David was born at Dysart, educated at Alberni, and was working as a teller for the Bank of Montreal when he enlisted at Vancouver in 1941.

Distinguished Flying Cross citation (1943):
This officer has been bombing leader in his squadron for a period of seven months and during that time has taken part in a large number of operations against German and Italian targets. Flight Lieutenant Ramsay has, by his enthusiasm and leadership, set a splendid example of accurate bombing to all crews and has himself on several occasions made a second or third bombing run.

He was also awarded the Croix de guerre 1940 avec palme posthumously by the Belgian government:
For exceptional war services rendered to Belgium in the course of liberation and in its defence.

GJ Smith died on the same flight.
