Ross Herrington (location unknown) alerted SVWM to the existence of the Corps of Guides and to the association of ER Mundle, an architect from Melville who enlisted on the outbreak of WWI, to it.  On the back page of Mundle’s attestation there is a pencilled notation of the Corps at upper left, and one of his service records lists his rank as “Scout(Pte)”.

Hmmm.  In all the years I’ve devoted to this stuff the Corps of Guides has never once fallen within my purview.  What follows is therefore a very interesting description of one of the lesser known units of the pre-WWI Canadian Army.  The question for us is did the Corps maintain a militia presence in Saskatchewan that might have occupied some of Mundle’s spare time?
