| Fireman (SS Newton Ash) Cecil Harold Barton of Bladworth was KIA 19430208 and is commemorated on the Halifax Memorial for merchant mariners lost or buried at sea. The Newton Ash sailed out of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and was torpedoed by U402 on a voyage from Saint John and Halifax to Hull, East Riding Yorkshire, with a cargo of grain. Cecil was the son of Henry Barton who homesteaded NE36-27-1-W3 on the outskirts of Bladworth. |
