| R98669 Flight Sergeant (No. 162 Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron RCAF flight engineer) Robert Wilfred Ernest Townsend (b.1921) of Saskatoon was KIA 19440729 and is buried at Lerwick New cemetery, Shetland Islands, Scotland. Based in Iceland, his Canso crashed at Foula Island in bad weather on an anti-submarine patrol. He was the son of Robert Franklin and Mabelle Marie (Stockman) Townsend and was born at Saskatoon. Robert Jr. was educated at Princeton, Oxford Co., Ontario, and was studying aeronautics at Saskatoon when he enlisted there in 1941. |
