Narrative history
R62467 Warrant Officer 1 (No. 103 Squadron RAF pilot) Robert Lloyd Telfer (b.1915) of Humboldt was KIA 19420828 and is buried at Gosselies communal cemetery just north of Charleroi, Hainaut, Belgium. Telfer's Halifax went missing on a night raid. He was the son of Robert Adam and Alice Olivia (Paul) Telfer, both Ontarians. Robert Sr. founded the Humboldt Journal in 1905. Robert Jr. was educated at Humboldt and Hamilton, Ontario, including a year at McMaster University. He owned a 5c-$1 store at Larder Lake, Timiskaming district, for two years but that venture seems to have failed just before he came home to enlist in 1940. Robert married Marvel Joyce (Baker) the next Boxing Day and their son Robert Edward was born after his father was posted overseas.
