Narrative history
J89478 Pilot Officer (No. 37 Squadron RAF pilot) Maynard Lloyd Strumm (b.1924) of Saskatoon was KIA 19440714 over Brod, Jugoslavia, and is buried at Belgrade war cemetery, Serbia. Strumm's Wellington was lost in a raid on Brod. He was the son of Roger Harold and Marjorie Grace (Nichols) Strumm. Maynard had his wings pinned on by his father, Regimental Sergeant Major RH Strumm MBE of the South Saskatchewan Regiment, who had been invalided home after the Dieppe Raid. Maynard graduated from Albert school and City Park collegiate before enlisting at Saskatoon in 1942.

Harold's Member of the Order of the British Empire citation:
This Warrant Officer has a record of exceptionally long and meritorious service throughout all of which he has exhibited outstanding qualities of enthusiasm and leadership. His very high sense of duty and his untiring efforts in that direction have been a source of encouragement and example to all who have served with him. During his long career his military duties have always been his first concern. Although severely wounded at Dieppe in August 1942 and subsequently discharged from the army he obtained special re-enlistment on completion of almost two and one-half years hospitalization to enable him to give further service to his country. Since his return to duty his extraordinary zeal, energy and wealth of experience have been invaluable in preparing volunteers for the final phase of the war.
