| C18975 Pilot Officer (No. 427 Lion Squadron RCAF air gunner) Lloyd Henry Smith (b.1919) of Sturgis was KIA 19440331 and is buried at Hotton war cemetery, Luxembourg, Belgium. Smith's Halifax was in a midair collision with a Lancaster during a night raid on Nuremberg. It was his 15th sortie. He was the son of William and Mabel Ellen (Gillespie) Smith who homesteaded SW34-33-4-W2 near the Hassan siding. Lloyd was born at Canora, attended Kopje and Sturgis schools and was farming with his family when he enlisted at Regina in 1941.
