| H65154 Private (South Saskatchewan Regiment) (Jacob) Cyrus Smith (b.1914) of Melfort was KIA 19450306 at Xanten Approach during operations to clear the west bank of the Rhine and is buried at Groesbeek Canadian war cemetery near Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands. He was the son of Edmund Cyrus and Marion Smith who homesteaded SE 18-43-20-W2 west of Pathlow. Cyrus farmed, had a fur ranch south of Melfort and was a driver mechanic when he enlisted at Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1941, leaving a wife Aline. |
