| R182656 Leading Aircraftman (RCAF construction hand) Gilbert James Smith (b.1922) of Saskatoon died 19450128 of tuberculosis and is buried at Elfros cemetery. Attached to No. 4 Construction & Maintenance Unit, Smith died in Colonel Belcher hospital, Calgary, Alberta. He was the son of James and Marion Richie (Bell) Smith who came from Scotland to homestead SW14-32-14-W2 just west of Elfros in 1909. James was later a merchant and implement dealer in Elfros. Gilbert was working for a paper box manufacturer when he enlisted at Saskatoon in 1942. His brother Norman also served in the RCAF. |
