Narrative history
  J20847 Flying Officer (No. 434 Bluenose Squadron RCAF pilot) Frederick George Small (b.1917) of Regina was KIA 19431009 and is buried at Hamburg cemetery, Ohlsdorf, Germany. Small's Halifax was shot down at Fallingsbastel near Schwarmstedt during a night raid on Hanover. He was the son of John Charles and Sarah Ann (Vaughan) Small of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. Fred was born at Winnipeg and spent over three years at Lac du Bonnet with Manitoba Government Air Services as an air engineer before accepting a position with Prairie Airways at Regina in 1940. He enlisted late the next year.

Small Lake south of North Knife Lake, Manitoba (64H11), was also named in his honour in 1944.
