| L105852 Lance Corporal (Regina Rifles) George Edward Slaney (b.1921) of Weyburn was KIA 19440925 during the assault on Calais and is buried at Calais Canadian war cemetery, Leubringhen, Pas-de-Calais, France. Slaney was wounded and attempting to return to his platoon when he was picked off by a sniper. He was the son of Edward Joseph and Eva Slaney. George was born at Fort Qu'Appelle and was working in his father's shoe repair shop when he enlisted at Regina in 1943, leaving a wife Dorothea Violet (Gessel) and daughter Cheryl (they moved to Moose Jaw when he went overseas). |
