Narrative history
R85408 Flight Sergeant (RCAF observer) Frank John Barnes (Jack) Scrimes (b.1917) of Regina was KIA 19420602 and is buried at Uden war cemetery, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands. Scrimes' Wellington went missing in an operation over enemy territory from No. 23 Operational Training Unit; the remains of aircraft and crew were not discovered until 1957. He was the son of Frank William and Margaret Mary (Pollock) Scrimes who came from Manitoba. Jack was born at Rosthern and educated at Saskatoon and at Central collegiate, Regina, where his father was transferred by the Imperial Bank in 1933. He spent two years at the University of Saskatchewan studying engineering but was working as a clerk for Imperial Oil when he enlisted at Regina early in 1941.

Scrimes is one of 22 members of First Presbyterian congregation to be commemorated on a stained glass window in the church, and to have their stories told in David G. Marshall, Stained Glass Name: A Dedication of Remembrance, published by the church in 2002.
