Narrative history
L12173 Corporal (South Saskatchewan Regiment) Robert Barclay (Bert) Robb (b.1916) of Expanse was KIA 19440720 during the assault on Verrières Ridge near the Orne River when an artillery shell struck his Bren gun carrier. He is buried at Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian war cemetery, Calvados, France. Bert was born at Monikie, Angus, Scotland, and was farming with his family when he enlisted at Assiniboia on the outbreak of the war.

Brother of GB Robb. They were the sons of George Barclay and Janet (Kilgour) Robb. The Robb family came from Fife in 1924. All five of their boys received the middle name of Barclay after two uncles, Robert Barclay of Craik who died at Passchendaele while attached to the Canadian Corps, and Barclay Robb who served in Egypt. Their brother Ian served in the Army.
