| L33136 Private (Royal Canadian Army Service Corps) Harold Pedersen (b.1918) of Pas Trail was KIA 19430705 and is commemorated on the Cassino Memorial, Frosinone, Italy, for soldiers from the Italian campaign who died with no known grave. SS Devis was torpodoed off the north coast of Tunisia while ferrying Canadian troops for the invasion of Sicily, and Pedersen was one of the 52 soldiers lost. He was the son of Severen and Severina Pedersen who came from Norway and later retired to Courtenay, British Columbia. Harold was born at Carmichael, educated at Berlin school south of Star City and was farming and working in sawmills north of Carrot River when he enlisted at Saskatoon in 1941, originally in the Royal Canadian Engineers. Two brothers Olaf and Robert also served in the Army overseas. |
