| R62462 Flight Sergeant (No. 66 Squadron RAF pilot) Ronald Harvey Loyns (b.1922) of Saskatoon was KIA 19420819 and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial near London, England, for airmen who died with no known grave. Loyns' Spitfire was shot down over the English Channel during the Dieppe raid, along with more than 100 other Allied planes. He was the son of Irwin Nelson and Rena Blanche (Johnston) Loyns who homesteaded NE16-40-18-W2 northwest of Naicam before moving to Saskatoon. Ronald was born at Saskatoon, educated at Mayfair school and Bedford Road collegiate and was a student when he enlisted at Saskatoon in 1940. His sister Larene also served in the RCAF. |
