Narrative history |
| L65666 Private (Infantry) William (Billy) Liggins (b.1923) of Mazenod died 19420502 and is buried at Maple Leaf cemetery, Chatham, Kent Co., Ontario. Liggins and Pte OH Weeres of Assiniboia were on leave at London when they rented a canoe and took two young ladies for a paddle in the Thames River. They were rocking the canoe to make the girls scream when it tipped and they both drowned, although the young ladies were pulled to safety. He was the son of Thomas and Dora (Kennedy) Liggins who came from England in 1918. Billy considered himself a truck driver when he enlisted at Regina less than two months before his death, but he was working as a messman at the BCATP school at Mossbank at the time. |
