Narrative history
  V11314 Ordinary Seaman (SS Whitford Point) Anthony (Tony) Leskiw (b.1920) of Saskatoon was KIA 19401020 and is commemorated on the Halifax Memorial along with the 2,000 other members of the services who were lost or buried at sea. A member of the RCNVR before the war (he enlisted at Saskatoon late in 1938), Tony Leskiw perished on his first voyage on active service as an anti-aircraft machinegunner on the SS Whitford Point, a merchantman carrying 7500 tons of steel which was sunk by U47 in the north Atlantic. He was the son of Philemon and Christina Leskiw, both of Ukrainian extraction, who were married at Ethlebert, Manitoba, in 1911. Tony was born at Saskatoon and was a printer's apprentice when he enlisted.
