Narrative history
  3293 Able Seaman (HMCS Fraser) Harry Kowbel (b.1919) of Blucher was KIA 19400625 and is buried at Weston Mill cemetery, Plymouth, Devon, England. The Fraser, a destroyer, went down in a collision with the cruiser HMS Calcutta during the evacuation of France. Harry enlisted at Esquimalt late in 1938 with neighbour Douglas Carlton. Both boys went down with the Fraser and there is a memorial plaque in their honour at Knox United church, Bladworth.

Brother of M Kowbel. They were the sons of Anton Jacob (Jake) and Maria Kowbel who homesteaded NE34-39-1-W3 southeast of Smuts, later moving to a farm at Blucher and eventually retiring to Saskatoon. See AR Carlton.
