Narrative history
  Lieutenant (South Saskatchewan Regiment) Leonard George Kempton (b.1921) of Weyburn was KIA 19420819 at Dieppe and is buried at the Canadian war cemetery, Hautot-sur-Mer, Seine-Maritime, France. Kempton, who led C Company onto the beaches that day, was mentioned in despatches and received the Croix de guerre avec étoile d'argent posthumously from the French government. Leonard, a King's Scout, was the son of Edward Horace and Evelyn B. Kempton and the cousin of MM Kempton. He was working as a clerk when he enlisted as a private (L12054) at Weyburn three days before Canada declared war.
