| 42219 Pilot Officer (No. 82 Squadron RAF pilot) Earl Robert Hale (b.1915) of Vancouver, British Columbia, was KIA 19400813. Hale worked as a journalist for a time before enlisting in the RAF at Vancouver in 1938 and proceeding to England for training. He died in a daylight raid on a German airfield at Aalborg in northeastern Denmark and his remains (which were not recovered until 1995) are buried at nearby Vadum churchyard, Jutland. Eleven of the twelve Blenheims that participated in the raid were shot down, and 21 of the 33 aircrew perished. Earl was the son of Robert Ethelbert and Maud (Cunningham) Hale who came from Souris, Manitoba, to homestead N30-22-23-W3 northeast of Sceptre in 1909 (they subseequently retired to North Vancouver). Earl was educated at Lemsford. |
