| R85297 Warrant Officer 2 (No. 407 Demon Squadron RCAF wireless air gunner) Philip Stanley Grindley (b.1920) of Moose Jaw was KIA 19430531 and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial near London, England, for airmen from the north European theatre who died with no known grave. Grindley's Wellington failed to return from a night anti-submarine patrol over the Bay of Biscay. He was the son of Frank Grindley who came from Chester, Cheshire, to homestead SE19-25-2-W3 in the Rosemae district west of Girvin, and Hazel Lois (Hall) who was born and raised at Eastleigh. Philip was born at Moose Jaw and was working as a shipper at a bakery when he enlisted at Regina early in 1941. His three brothers all served with the Artillery overseas. |
