Narrative history | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
J9146 Flight Lieutenant (No. 421 Red Indian Squadron RCAF Spitfire pilot) William John Drope (b.1921) of Regina was KIA 19440607 over the beaches of Normandy the day after D-Day and is buried at Bayeux war cemetery, Calvados, France. Drope's plane experienced engine failure off Moisy. He bailed out into the sea but his parachute did not open and a launch sent from a nearby destroyer found him dead. He was the son of Harry Earl and Jean Brand (McDonald) Drope. William attended Central collegiate and Campion college and was working as an accounts clerk for Minneapolis Moline farm implements company when he enlisted at Regina in 1941. William's grandfather was a WWI casualty, see TB Drope. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
