Narrative history
  R85450 Flight Sergeant (No. 20 Operational Training Unit RCAF pilot) John Edwin Lawrence Downton (b.1916) of Wilcox perished 19420625 when his Beaufighter stalled and crashed at Gatwick aerodrome returning from an air/sea rescue mission. He is buried at St. Mary churchyard, Brandesburton, East Riding Yorkshire, England. He was the son of William Thomas and Elsie Mary (Lawrence) Downton who came from Somerset, England, to farm at W4-14-20-W2. John attended Todd and Wilcox schools and was farming out when he enlisted at Regina early in 1941.
