Narrative history
  Major (South Saskatchewan Regiment) Leonard Lloyd Dickin (b.1915) of Saskatoon died 19440922 and is buried at Brookwood military cemetery near London, England. Dickin was mentioned in despatches for his role in the Dieppe raid, and died in hospital in England from wounds sustained in Normandy two years later. Leonard was the son of Elwood and Mary Dickin (the Dickin family originally came from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, to the Blackwood district in 1883). His father died during the 1918-19 flu pandemic while buying grain at Kisbey, and he was raised by relatives at Blackwood. Leonard was born at Osage, received his BA from the University of Saskatchewan, and was working as a parts man for McKenzie Automotive when he enlisted at Saskatoon in 1940, leaving a wife Doris Enid (Burrows) and daughter Marilyn at Saskatoon.
