| R61802 Sergeant (No. 51 Squadron RAF air gunner) (William) Martin Chambers (b.1917) of Rouleau was KIA 19411108 and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial just west of London, England, for airmen who died with no known grave. Chambers' Whitley was shot down over the North Sea. He was the son of William Henry and Grace Elizabeth (Moore) Chambers who came from Paisley, Bruce Co., Ontario, to farm in 1904. Martin, whose brother Bruce served with the Royal Canadian Artillery overseas, attended Luther college, Regina, and was a truck driver/service station attendant when he enlisted at Regina in 1940. Four of his sisters also served, Joan in the RCAF, Marjorie in the Navy and Hazel and Ada in the Army. |
