| L91616 Lance Corporal (20 Field Co., Royal Canadian Engineers) (John) Gordon Beaton (b.1914) of Prince died 19450625 and is buried at Groesbeek Canadian war cemetery near Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands. Beaton died of alcohol poisoning after he and some mates inadvisedly whipped up some home brew based on methyl alcohol. He was the son of Jonathan and Grace Beaton who farmed at Prince. Gordon was born at North Battleford and was buying grain for Searle when he enlisted at Saskatoon in 1942. His brothers Frank and Robert also served in the Army (Robert overseas) while younger brother Kenneth was in the Navy. |
