C2233 Flight Lieutenant (No. 424 Tiger Squadron RCAF navigator) Harry Thomas Amy (b.1914) of Saskatoon was KIA 19440511 and is buried at the Guidel communal cemetery, Morbihan, France. Amy's Halifax did not return from a mine laying operation. He was the son of Ira Alfred and Emma (Mitchell) Amy who homesteaded NW18-16-7-W2 just southwest of Grenfell; Emma perished in the influenza pandemic and Ira was living at Watrous in the 1940s. Harry was born at Grenfell, educated there and at Saskatoon Tech and completed a BEng at the University of Saskatchewan in 1936 (he also played hockey for the Huskies and was a member of the university's boxing team). He worked for Yani gold mine at Boston Creek near Kirkland Lake, Ontario, but returned to university in 1939 and enlisted at Saskatoon the next year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
