Narrative history
Captain (28th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment) (John) Arthur Cullum MC & bar (b.1879) died 19161110 from wounds sustained at Regina Trench and was buried at Bruay Communal cemetery extension, Pas-de-Calais, France. Arthur was born in Wellington Co., Ontario, arriving in the Condie district in 1884. As a young man he homesteaded SW20-18-20-W2 just south of the Condie siding. He left a wife Uretta Maud when he enlisted at Winnipeg, Manitoba, a year before his death.

Cullum studied medicine at the University of Toronto and at Edinburgh before opening a practice at Regina in 1905. He helped to establish Park Sanatorium which later became Pasqua hospital. On the outbreak of war, he enlisted in the 95th Saskatchewan Rifles as a medical officer, but re-mustered as a line officer overseas.

Military Cross citation 19160727:
For conspicuous gallantry. During a very heavy bombardment by the enemy he saw a serjeant buried in his dug-out by a direct hit. He at once went out and at great personal risk succeeded in rescuing the serjeant and taking him to the dressing-station. On many previous occasions he has displayed great coolness under fire.

Bar to the Military Cross citation 19161114:
For conspicuous gallantry in action. He carried out the evacuation of the wounded under very heavy fire with great courage and skill, and at great personal risk. He has on many previous occasions done very fine work.
