Narrative history
  R80180 Warrant Officer 2 (No. 22 Operational Training Unit RCAF pilot) (Donald) Leroy Torkelson (b.1920) of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, was KIA 19420625 over Bremen and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial near London, England, for airmen who died with no known grave. Torkelson's Wellington went missing over the continent. He was the son of Gilman and Dena L. (Halls) Torkelson who homesteaded SE5-4-24-W2 southwest of Bengough and later ranched in the area. Leroy, who was educated at Coney Island school and Balfour Tech, Regina, joined the Bank of Commerce in 1938 and was with them at Regina, Wiseton, and Gilbert Plains before he enlisted at Winnipeg late in 1940.
