Narrative history
  J21753 Flying Officer (No. 298 Squadron RAF observer) Derwood William Smith (b.1917) of Vancouver, British Columbia, was KIA 19440716 and is buried at Le Mans West cemetery, Sarthe, France. Smith's Halifax went down at Larré, Morbihan, near Alencon during a night supply drop, killing all six crew members including JWR Fournier of Prince Albert. He was the son of Edward William and Ida Mary (Lowe) Smith. Derwood was born at Baildon southeast of Moose Jaw, educated at Haney and was a teacher when he enlisted at Vancouver in 1941.
