Narrative history
  B66042 Private (Canadian Army Corps of Military Staff Clerks) (John Frederick) Richard (Jack) Slater (b.1917) of Toronto, Ontario, was KIA 19410430 and is commemorated on the Halifax Memorial for servicemen lost or buried at sea. Slater was a passenger on SS Nerissa when she was torpedoed off Ireland, see Nerissa in Age Shall Not Weary Them. He was the son of John Morrison and Julie Minette Slater of Regina. Richard graduated from Connaught school and Central collegiate and was working as a clerk typist for British American Oil Co. at Toronto when he enlisted there in the Queen's Own Rifles in 1940.
