Narrative history
  R61418 Sergeant (RCAF clerk) George Peter Francis Merle (b.1919) of Regina died 19421007 of an embolism caused by a blood clot in his heart and is buried in the soldiers' plot at Regina cemetery. Merle was on strength to the Air Force Recruiting depot when he died. He was the son of Anton and Theresa (Besteck) Merle who came from Hungary. George was born at Weyburn, educated at St. Josephs school and Balfour Tech and was working as a bookkeeper for Monarch Lumber prior to enlisting at Regina in 1940. He married Elizabeth Marion (Sabo) the next year and they had a daughter, also named Elizabeth.
