R100245 Sergeant (No. 111 Squadron RCAF pilot) Stanley Ray Maxmen (b.1922) of Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay district, Ontario, was KIA 19420716 and is buried at Fort Richardson Post cemetery near Anchorage, Alaska. Maxmen's squadron was set up to patrol the west coast after the Japanese invaded Pearl Harbor. The group, flying Kittyhawk fighters, were later posted to Alaska and Maxmen and four other pilots were lost trying to find their way through fog at Unalaska Island. He was the son of Ole and Annabelle (Booth) Maxmenko who came to Moose Jaw from Ukraine. Stanley attended Alexandra school and Central collegiate and was employed in aircraft production at Canada Car & Foundry at Thunder Bay, Ontario, when he enlisted there in 1941. He married Edythe Elsie (Chesworth) at Moose Jaw early the next year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
