Narrative history
  R107744 Flight Sergeant (No. 78 Squadron RAF pilot) Fred Aten Marean (b.1919) of Regina was KIA 19430312 and is buried at Uden war cemetery, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands. Marean's Halifax was shot down by a fighter on his 16th mission and crashed at Grafwegen, Germany, during a raid on Essen. He was the son of Frederick Albert and Dorcas G. (Aten) Marean who came from Iowa to a farm south of Wilcox in 1906, moving to the Estlin area in 1919. Fred Jr. was born at Wilcox, graduated from Boyle school, Balfour Tech, Regina, and Success business college, and was pumping gas at McDougall's service station when he was called up for NRMA service at Regina early in 1941. He transferred to the RCAF at Winnipeg, Manitoba, three months later.
