Narrative history
  R71714 Sergeant (RCAF wireless air gunner) Robert Lewis Horning Jr. (b.1915) of Dundas, Wentworth Co., Ontario, died 19420114 and is buried at Stratford-upon-Avon cemetery, Warwickshire, England. Horning's Wellington crashed due to instrument failure on a training flight from No. 22 Operational Training Unit. He was the son of Robert Lewis and Lottie Woodward (Hind) Horning who homesteaded NE34-36-16-W2 northeast of Quill Lake in 1905, but Robert became a teacher five years later. He subsequently taught at Nokomis (1910), Victoria, British Columbia (1912), Moosomin (1918) and Melville (1921) before becoming superintendent at Balcarres in 1927. He retired to Dundas in 1936 and the family moved there. Robert Jr. was educated at Balcarres and Balfour Tech and worked as a store clerk for Abercrombie & Fitch at New York, New York, for a year before enlisting at Toronto in 1940.
