Narrative history
  R61612 Flight Sergeant (No. 148 Squadron RAF wireless air gunner) William Irvine (Diddy) Fairley (b.1919) of Regina was KIA 19420112 and is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt, for airmen from the middle eastern theatre who died with no known grave. Fairley's Wellington was shot down by a flak ship off Elhsan. He was the son of John Wesley and Helena Maria (McClosky) Fairley who came from New Brunswick and later moved to Calgary. Diddy was a graduate of Holy Rosary school and Balfour Tech, and was working at the RCMP barracks when he enlisted at Regina in 1940.
