Narrative history
  L102771 Rifleman (Regina Rifles) Vasil Capraru (b.1916) of Regina was KIA 19440608 at Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse and is buried at Bény-sur-Mer Canadian war cemetery near Reviers, Calvados, France. He was the son of Savu and Verona Capraru who came from Romania to homesteaded SE16-24-15-W2 north of Dysart before retiring to Regina. Vasil was born at Regina and was a construction labourer when he enlisted there late in 1942.

The Capraru family made a distinguished contribution to Canada's war effort. Of the eight children, George was a sergeant in 1 Canadian Parachute Battalion, Constintine and Michael were in the Army, Daniel served in the merchant marine and baby sister Elena was with the RCAF.
