  252326 Gunner (8th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery) Samuel Smith (b.1895) of Sandford Dene died 19170904 of his wounds and is buried at Fosse No. 10 communal cemetery extension, Sains-en-Gohelle north of Arras, Pas-de-Calais, France. He was the son of Ernest and Hannah Smith who came from Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Samuel homesteaded SW5-18-21-W3 northwest of Hazlet before enlisting at Swift Current early in 1916.
