Narrative history
  907542 Private (5th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment) John Macdonald (b.1891) of Regina was KIA 19171110 at Passchendaele and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, which bears the names of 55,000 men who were lost without trace during the defence of the Ypres Salient in the First World War. John was a butcher when he enlisted at Regina early in 1916, leaving a wife Elizabeth A.

Brother of Samuel Macdonald. They were the sons of Samuel MacDonald of Bridge of Allan, Stirling, Scotland. Two of their other brothers also served.
